The cat’s eye look has been hot for several seasons now, but now it’s time to take it up a notch – if you dare. In both seasons of the 2012 international fashion weeks, models showed off bold, geometric styles of black eyeliner, to stunning effect.

This look is far more dramatic than the classic cat’s eye and might be daunting for those who have only just mastered the original technique. But there are no rules with these new looks, so you can feel free to play around and get creative.

The make-up pros at MAC have dubbed this trend ‘Arti Tech’, and their latest lookbook is full of wild and wonderful takes on the trend. From tiny triangular ‘horns’ to deliberately smudged, leaf-shaped designs that surround the eye to eyeliner that comes right up under the brow, leaving the eyelid bare, these striking looks require eyeliner in a gel pot or a felt-tip pen - and a very steady hand! Now’s the time to spread your wings and design a unique look.

Have your say: Will you try it it?
