Faster ways to moisturise your body
In winter our skin needs TLC, thanks to less humidity and more central heating. But if you're like me, you're often too lazy or too busy to properly moisturise your whole body (plus, it's cold in the mornings, especially when you're undressed!) Here are some shortcuts to help you take care of your body this season:

High-tech, low-cost lotions
When it comes to new skincare technology in body moisturisers, the buzzwords are fast-acting and long-lasting. Nivea Express Hydration Body Lotion, $8.29, contains an ingredient that stimulates the skin's own moisture network, immediately hydrating skin with an effect that last 24 hours. It's also fast-absorbing, so you get dressed straight away. Garnier Intensive 7 Days Body Lotion, $10.49 (also available as a cream) also absorbs quickly and has been shown to have a moisturising effect that can still be detected seven days later.

Spray it on
Sometimes rubbing in the body lotion is just another hassle! These time-savers aren't deeply moisturising but for normal skin they add plenty of hydration. (Very dry skin needs a cream or an oil). Pure Fiji Hydrating Body Mist, $25.50, is available in several yummy island-inspired scents. The Herb Farm Aloe Vera Rescue Spray, $22.50, soothes skin and has a great pump that ensures a perfect spray. Or you can make your own, using a spray bottle filled with a mix of distilled water, aloe vera gel and glycerin.

Bath oils
Bath oils are a great way to relax and moisturise your body at the same time (the only hitch is cleaning the bath afterwards!). Dr Hauschka, Jo Malone and Linden Leaves all make great options, but you can also make your own using a carrier oil (such as almond oil) mixed with an essential oil (choose a scent you love). Neutrogena also an excellent body oil, which can be used in the bath or applied to skin straight from the shower.

In-shower washes
Supermarket brands such as Dove and Nivea specialise in extra-hydrating body washes. Dove's Triple Moisturising Body Wash, $7.49, is rich and creamy - so long as you don't stay in the shower for hours (stripping the skin's natural oils), it works hard enough for you to forgo body lotion.

Solid sticks
There aren't many of these around, but I'm hooked on Michael Kors Leg Shine, which is in the same format as a solid deodorant. It's ideal for those moments you notice you have scaly legs, because one swipe fixes the problem.
