Two female Swedish inventors have come up with an answer to the dealbreaker many would-be cyclists face – helmet hair.
Anna Haupt and Terese Alstin have created the Hovding, a large collar (which can pass as a trendy scarf) that inflates like an airbag into a protective hood-like helmut when the bike makes abnormal movements.
The pair, who made the fashion-friendly safety device as part of their university thesis, set out to prove that the unattractiveness of bike helmets was a major barrier to usage. The Hovding is customisable with different colored and patterned zip-on shells, and is currently only available in Europe (for around NZ$750).
