American Apparel does like to shock, but at least this time they've moved away from their usual antics with super-young models in suggestive poses and tried something new.
Meet Jacky — American Apparel's new model for their Advanced Basics line, with age to match the "advanced" clothes she is wearing. She does, however, still have the perquisite long, flowing locks (albeit grey) and long legs. And, of course, it wouldn't be an American Apparel ad campaign without at least one crotch shot.
On their Facebook page, American Apparel describes how the collaboration came about:
"There was something so compelling about Jacky's look and energy when we first spotted her in a New York restaurant this winter, we introduced ourselves and pulled up a chair," American Apparel posted on its Facebook page.
"We introduced ourselves and pulled up a chair. During a long discussion that touched on everything from career choices and nutrition to insights on relationships, age and beauty, we asked if she would consider being photographed by us. We were thrilled when she agreed.
"Here are some photos we've taken of Jacky over the last few months showing how she likes to wear American Apparel. We hope you enjoy them."
And some people definitely have enjoyed the shots, posting comments along the lines of "This is rad. I wanna be Jacky when I get old(er)." But others question the controversial brand's motives, asking "Old people are in?"
