As much fun as it is to play with make-up, few of us have the time when it comes to getting set for after-work parties.

But according to make-up artist Bobbi Brown, all that’s needed is “a few quick tricks to make a simple transition from office to evening.” She adds “Since lighting is often softer and the occasion dressier, the idea is to make the face look a bit more dramatic than during the day.”

Here are four easy ways, from classic to on-trend, to primp up your party look.

Metallic liner

While full-on shimmer may be too much for summer nights (when it stays light till 9pm), a swipe of metallic eye-liner opens up your eyes and adds instant glamour. You can either invest in a glittery liquid liner , or simply dip a wet eye-shadow brush into metallic eye shadow and apply along the lash line. Our picks: Avon's Color Trend Metallic Liquid Liner, $49, and Maybelline Eye Studio Hyper Diamonds, $15.99.

Statement lips

The bold red lip has always been chic for evening, but for a fashion-forward look try some of the hot new brights on counter. Vibrant coral (Pantone’s colour of 2012) is a great summer choice, as are fuchsia and even flamingo.

For perfect coverage paint lips with a primer or light luminising concealer, and use a nude lip pencil (or one to match your lippy). We love any of the YSL Vernis a Levres glossy stains as well as Revlon’s ColorBurst and Shiseido’s Perfect Rouge ranges. All give masses of pigment but a light, lustrous feel on the lips.

False lashes

You don’t have to be a reality starlet to try on some falsies. Half sets or individual lashes are great options for those wanted to avoid looking too much like the girls from The Only Way Is Essex.

Once you get the technique right, is easy to glue these onto the lashline at the outer corners and instantly glam up your look (Eva Longoria says she can stick hers on in the car!).

We are fans of the Smink range (available at Dry & Tea) as well as Manicare’s Glam Eyes range, at pharmacies. Blend the lashes in with some black eyeliner and curl them gently with your real lashes and your secret will be safe.

Shimmery cheeks

A dusting of highlighting powder or a swipe of creamy illuminator is a super easy way to add glamour. Use shimmer above cheekbones, on browbones and collarbones, down the bridge of the nose and above the cupid’s bow on lips (not necessarily all at once though!).
