Nail art has exploded lately, and just when you think all creative avenues have been taken, along come some new innovations.
Here are three cool new ways to modernise your manicure.
The ‘caviar’ manicure
We’re crazy about this cool new kit from Ciate, $46, from Mecca Cosmetica. They’ve called it a caviar manicure because tiny beads are sprinkled onto the polish as it dries, creating a 3D beaded effect.
The brand is the brainchild of celebrity manicurist Charlotte Knight. While this set makes it easy, you can still create the look on a budget by using micro beads from craft stores (follow You Tube tutorials for instructions).
Double-sided polish
Here’s a trend for those with longer nails – paint the underside in a contrasting colour.
The ads for OPI’s new Skyfall collection feature Bond girl Berenice Marlohe (Severine) sporting a main coat of burgundy Skyfall with the undersides of nails painted in glittery Goldeneye.
It’s a great way to add a little extra to your polish without gong over the top. Plus, undersides of long nails often look grey and dirty when nude, so this solves that problem.
The fuzzy velvet look
Matte nail polishes, also known as suede or velvet, have been around for a while. But new versions involve sprinkling velvet dust all over the nails for a truly velvety, almost furry, finish.
Ciate offers a gorgeous Velvet Manicure Kit, $46, from Mecca Cosmetica, but you can also create the look using flocking powder, available at craft stores.
